Clown for Beginners - The Spirit of Play
The clown has a curiosity and wonder for the world, an outlook so simple that everything becomes a game. This is the starting point to discovering the art of stupidity. Learn how to build your own comic routines, using improvisation, rhythm and play and experience the joys of seriously clowning around.
Advanced Clown Course - Now that's what I call stupid two.
An advanced clown course aimed at participants who are serious about being stupid. Topics covered will include working the audience, developing style, directing, object theatre and mime. Through play and improvisation we will work towards a short show to an invited audience on the final evening.Course Dates

Please note that TCS will cancel any courses one-week in advance if the minimum number for the course is not reached. If TCS does cancel a course for any reason your course fee will be fully refunded. TCS does not refund or exchange tickets except in exceptional circumstances.

Juggling Workshops
Juggling is back! The Circus Space is introducing a juggling workshop on Monday evenings from 7.30 - 10pm in the Combustion Chamber.
This is the workshop of choice for jugglers - whether amateur or professional who are interested in developing high quality, original juggling performances.
Through these sessions we will encourage and support participants to develop their juggling skills whilst also exploring various juggling disciplines, conventional and unconventional and their use in performance. Each workshop will be offer a creative and explorative learning environment encouraging innovation and new ways of performing. We will nurture this through excellent tuition, a supportive, creative and open environment.
These workshops will run on most Mondays during TCS term-times. (no classes on bank holidays)
Each workshop costs £5/£3 concession.Street Dance Classes
We will be running weekly drop in street dance classes on a Saturday afternoon from 4-6pm each class costs £10/£8 concession.This class is aimed at all levels, although some dance or movement background and an aerial awareness in acrobatics at a Beginner level would be beneficial. It has been designed for students (aerial & Acro)who want to explore a different way of moving other than Contemporary Dance or Classical Ballet.
The class will be taken by NiCK.E who teaches Street Dance with an Old School Hip-Hop flava.
Students should have sound physical knowledge and be prepared to do floor work and basic 'Breakin'.The class will include a Dance warm-up, Floor work, 'Street' technique and a Routine.
Experience: A basic background in Movement or Dance.
Saturday’s 21st June – 9th August 2008 (8-weeks) led by Lorraine Moynehan

Price: £144 / £112 concession courseA 7-week course exploring movement between the floor and aerial equipment. Using equipment rigged from single and double points and on swivels this course will explore creating big visual images and movement led sequences.
Criteria for Participation:
> 18 and above
> Have a good grasp of aerial vocabulary
> Able to hold their body weight at height
> Can confidently work at height and in inverted positions

Swinging Trapeze 1:1’s

For the last 5-weeks of this term we are offering intermediate level aerial students an opportunity to book a series of taster sessions in swinging trapeze.

Conditioning / Fitness Classes

TEACHER: NICK EURIDGEThese classes have been carefully devised to cater for all students on the adult program. They will enable you to develop a good overall fitness and sound knowledge of how to strengthen your body. Nick has taken his experience in circus, gymnastics, dance and the royal marines to make this body conditioning class a high impact, high energy class that is perfect for the circus enviroment! The class will work on improving short term and long term cardio, core stabilty and upper and lower body strength, all of which are vital for circus.

In 2008 we will continue to run monthly film nights and are planning to introduce monthly evening lectures in a variety of subjects from creating risk assessment's, setting up your own business, fitness and nutritional advice to creating your own tour. The Adult Programme at The Circus Space has various spaces on certain evenings where successful applicants can practice known circus skills. These times are for practising known skills only and not for developing or experimenting with new skills. If you would like to develop new skills then you will need to sign up to a course to learn these.
People who are eligible for Adult Programme Practice are high-level amateurs who can demonstrate that they have a high-level of skills that they are competent at and have a safe and sensible approach to practising. If you’ve been training in circus for less than 18-months it is highly unlikely that you will be gain membership.
If you are an existing Intermediate level Adult Programme student of The Circus Space then your application can be authorised initially by your teacher. Following successful authorisation from your teacher and an induction you will be allowed to practice.
If you are not an existing Adult Programme student of The Circus Space, following a successful application you will also need to undertake a technical skill assessment, which last 30-minutes and costs £20, which is payable in advance. Following a successful assessment you will also need to undertake an induction.
Health & Safety, Equipment and Space Induction (Free)
If your application is successful, you will be booked into to have a health & safety, equipment and space induction.Technical Skill Assessment £20
If your application form meets our membership criteria, you will be invited to The Circus Space for an assessment of your technical ability and to gauge your ability to train safely and independently. You will be asked to prepare a short sequence on each discipline that you select on your application form to demonstrate your skill-base. During the assessment you will also be asked to perform various other skills on each relevant discipline.
Approval, if granted, will be for the specified disciplines only and you will need to reapply should you wish to practice other skills in the future.Please note that membership does not include any personal or public liability insurance. We strongly advise that you obtain insurance prior to practising. One company that may be able to assist with this is ‘First Act Insurance’ - www.firstact.co.uk

1:1's/private classes
The Adult Programme at The Circus Space has various spaces on certain evenings where applicants can have Private Lessons in their known circus area. These times are for developing new skills in your known disciplines. People who are eligible for Private Classes are high-level amateurs who have sufficient experience and want to further their skills. Please note that these classes are not for beginners wanting to learn a new skill. If you would like to develop new disciplines then you will need to sign up to a course to learn these.Classes can be of a one off basis or can be booked for a series of sessions depending on the availability of the teacher.
Those interested in 2:1, 3:1 and 4:1 Private Classes will need to arrange the group members independently and book for the relevant slot. Should one member of the group fail to attend the class, the original number booked will still be charged. The usual cancellation policies of 48 hour notice apply. Failure to meet this will result in payment of the full class.
